As facilitators and speakers, we've all experienced silence from the audience after we pose a question. It sounds so loud! There is a temptation to quickly fill it with another thought or question. However, don't panic! Adults need time to process information - this includes questions. You need to give them the time to do it. Try mentally counting to ten in your head before you speak again. Almost always, someone will speak up. If not, try rephrasing your question and then...you guessed it. Wait for the silence. |
